Best Banh mi in Leeds — Pho 37 Vietnamese Street Food

It was a cold, rainy day, and it was already lunchtime. My wife, daughter and I were in Headingley, Leeds, and headed over to Pho 37 for some Vietnamese food. It’s a cozy dine-in with an authentic Vietnamese ambiance created with watercolor paintings on straw hats, Vietnam maps, and a small worship corner. At Pho, we like the variety of Vietnamese food — Summer Rolls, Pho, Banh Mi, Rice Bowl, Noodle Bowl, Desserts, and Viet Coffee. Interestingly, they have added vegan dishes as well.

Our favorite is Banh Mi, an 8″ baguette with mayonnaise, pickles, chilies, coriander, and a choice of meat. The Baguette in Vietnam is a gift from the colonial rule of France. It’s crispy on the outside and has a mountain of fresh taste inside that hits you with fresh basil, carrots, coriander choice of sliced protein, and mild chilies. Whenever we visit a Viet eating joint, the Banh Mi is a must-have

We also ordered the Curry & Rice Bowl. It had a tender, warm hug with its coconut-flavored curry. A wholesome comfort food with rice, coconut curry, and aromatic vegetables. My daughter claimed it exclusively for herself. She liked it that much.

We also ordered the Vietnamese Hue Noodles. It had a mildly spicy flavorful broth, with rice noodles, chicken slices, lemongrass, onion, spring onion, and chilies. It tasted hot, and upon adding a squeeze of lemon, it cut down the spiciness and I could taste the other flavors. The warm spiced aromatic broth with the herbs and rice noodles was invigorating in the cold weather.

Coconut coffee — made from Viet drip coffee and coconut — was pretty creamy and the coconut flavor was not overpowering. An enjoyable cold brew.
